Hearing aids

Hearing aids are devices designed to help people with hearing problems. A hearing aid amplifies sounds in the environment and makes them clearer, making it easier for people with hearing problems to engage in conversations and carry out everyday tasks without any difficulties.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than 900 million people will have hearing loss by 2050. Hearing loss can be caused by genetics, complications at birth, infectious diseases, chronic ear infections, the use of certain medications, exposure to excessive noise and ageing. It is estimated that 1.1 billion young people (aged 12-35) are at risk of noise-induced hearing loss.

Hearing loss can occur for many reasons, such as childhood illnesses, prolonged exposure to noisy environments, chronic stress, etc. In up to 80% of cases, a professional hearing test and the correct fitting of hearing aids can solve these problems. It is therefore very important to monitor changes in your own or your relatives’ hearing and to have a hearing screening at least once a year.

Customer feedback

  • I was still hesitant to buy a hearing aid, even though my doctor mentioned them back in 2012. Finally, my son convinced me to visit the Optics World Hearing Centre. The lovely and kind hearing care professional was very quick to select the hearing aids and explained in detail how to use and maintain them. Thank you very much for the work you did.

  • I’ve had one machine since 2019, but after 3 years I decided I needed a new one. After coming to Optikos pasaule and consulting with a specialist, I decided to get 2 devices. I can compare that I hear much better with two instruments. I am very satisfied with the quality of the instruments and the clarity of the sounds.

  • Without a hearing aid, it was difficult to communicate with people, and I always wanted to turn up the TV. Having bought two hearing aids at Optikos pasaule, I feel very comfortable. Communication with people and my whole life is much better. I am very satisfied with the help I received from my hearing care professional.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I have a hearing loss?

Hearing problems develop slowly and become apparent over a long period of time. To find out if your hearing is impaired, we recommend that you contact your hearing care professional and have a hearing test. It is a cause for concern if you:
– Want to turn down the TV, radio or telephone.
– People around you seem to be mumbling.
– Ask people to repeat what they have said.
– Find it difficult to follow a conversation in a noisy environment, such as a restaurant.

Where can I have my hearing tested?

Hearing tests are available at the Optics World vision and hearing centres. To register for an appointment, click here.

Is tinnitus bad for hearing ?

Tinnitus is usually short-lived and goes away on its own. However, if the tinnitus recurs frequently, we recommend that you see a hearing care professional, as tinnitus can cause hearing loss.

Which type of hearing aid is better: behind-the-ear or in-ear?

Both behind-the-ear and in-the-ear types of hearing aids have their advantages, and which one is better depends on your preferences, needs and, of course, the degree of your hearing loss. For example, behind-the-ear hearing aids are great if you have mild, moderate or severe hearing loss, while in-ear hearing aids are great if you have mild to moderate hearing loss.

Which is better – one or two hearing aids?

If you have hearing loss in both ears, we recommend wearing two hearing aids. If you cannot hear in one ear, you can wear one hearing aid. Two hearing aids offer more benefits: improved sound localisation, improved balance function, better speech perception, more intense and clearer sound, easier adaptation.

How do I care for my hearing aid?

Cleaning your hearing aids more often will help keep them in the best possible condition. As a general rule, it is recommended to clean them once every morning before putting them on. A wipe can be used to wipe your hearing aids. If necessary, a brush can be used to remove deeper dirt. For more information, please refer to the User Guide that came with your hearing aid.

Will everyone see that I wear a hearing aid?

We understand that you worry about your appearance, but don’t you think a hearing impairment is more noticeable than a hearing aid? Modern technology has advanced so far that you can now choose from a wide range of comfortable, almost imperceptible hearing aids and easily communicate with the world around you.

What is the cost of hearing aids ?

You can find out how much a hearing aid costs during a consultation with a hearing care professional. The price of hearing aids depends on the type, model and additional features you choose. And it may also cost less if you take advantage of the reimbursement provided by the National Health Insurance Fund or the option to buy a hearing aid on a hire purchase basis.
